These earrings are made of slices of tagua which is an organic material from the Amazon rainforest. Your new earrings will be unique with faint swirls and patterns.
Tagua nuts are sustainably harvested in Ecuador where they are a valuable resource to the local indigenous people. Using nuts and seeds that grow naturally in the rainforest provide a source of income to local people and help prevent the rainforest from being cut down for farming or forestry purposes. With your purchase, you help the rainforest.
The earrings are 2.5 inches long from the top of the ear hook to the bottom of the tagua bead. They look substantial, however, tagua is a very light material and you will hardly notice you are wearing them – except for all the compliments!
All of the earrings on Artisans in the Andes have been created in Ecuador by local women who work hard at their craft and in their small businesses. Artisans in the Andes used fair trade methods to purchase these earrings including paying in advance and paying a fair market rate to provide a profit over the cost of the goods.
