These beaded earrings are green in more ways than one. Made with vibrant green tagua nuts, the color is gorgeous. The tagua nuts are sustainably harvested in the Amazon Rainforest, making the earrings eco-friendly. Tagua is an important palm in the rainforest, its nuts are harvested and dried in the sun by the local indigenous people. Once dry, the tagua is made into smooth, highly polished beads. Tagua resembles ivory in its characteristics and is often called vegetable ivory.
These dangling earrings were made by Anna, an artisan in the highlands of Ecuador. Anna has been designing and making jewelry, with her husband and cousins for over 10 years. Through Artisans in the Andes, Anna is able to reach a world-wide market.
The earrings are 2 inches (5cm) long from the top of the earwire to the base of the seeds. They are approximately 0.5 inches (1cm) wide. They are extremely light, but strong and durable.
