Handmade | Fairtrade | Beautiful
You will be delighted with this beautiful flower in a delicate shade of turquoise. Entirely handmade of tagua, the flower glows like ivory. The flower is complimented by a ‘chain’ of tagua beads and finished with a sliding clasp to give you an ideal fit. Size: 80 cm long, with the flower 5 cm across. We include matching earrings, in a matching shade of light weight tagua nut.
Organic tagua is sustainably harvested in the Amazon Rainforest of Ecuador. Often called vegetable ivory, tagua has many of the characteristics of elephant ivory. It is hard and polished very smooth. It holds dye well, and is light and comfortable to wear as either a necklace or earrings. The use of naturally grown items from the Rainforest helps to prevent destroying the Rainforest for agricultural purposes or mining. The harvesting, drying, cutting, dying, polished, and creating tagua into jewelry creates many jobs in Ecuador.
These earrings are handmade by a women’s cooperative in the highlands of Ecuador. This group of women has come together in a small indigenous village to pursue their craft and develop fair trade relationships with buyers. Through Artisans in the Andes, these ladies are reaching out to the world-wide market for their lovely goods.
