This necklace is hand pieced together with varying sized of sliced tagua nuts and colors: true red, black and grey. It is hung on soft leather with a sliding knot for optimal wear. The piece is a bit asymmetrical for a unique piece that has no equal. Size: 64 cm long and 6 cm wide in the front. This item is handmade in Ecuador, where we work on a fair trade basis with the cooperative that made this necklace. We include matching earrings, in a matching shade of light weight tagua nut.
Details:
Tagua is gathered in the Amazon Rainforest in Ecuador. It provides many jobs in gathering, drying and processing the natural nuts. The nuts themselves are usually about 5 cm long and 3 cm across. Originally they were widely used for buttons before the invention of plastic. After the tagua button industry died, it took a long time before the use of tagua in jewelry became popular. With more and more customers demanding eco-friendly options, tagua is ideal as its sustainably grown without damaging the land through mining.
