Hand dyed statement piece
This gorgeous statement piece will make your outfit pop with gorgeous blue color. The blues in this bib necklace range from a gentle light blue to a darker navy. Because the underlying beads are tagua, an organic substance, the dye is taken at different levels and adds depth and uniqueness to the piece. Through the blue, you will associate yourself with freedom, imagination and sensitivity.
Although the necklace looks substantial, it is actually very light weight and you will hardly know you are wearing it. The tagua nuts have been carefully polished to be gentle and warm against your skin. There is a long soft leather tie in the back so that you can make the necklace the exact length you want to match your neckline. In total, the length of the necklace is 30 inches long (75 cm) with ties to each side of the beads and a sliding knot to keep the necklace firmly in place. The matching earrings are 2 inches by .75 inches and also lightweight.
Tagua is sometimes called vegetable ivory. It shares many of the characteristics with ivory, except that it is grown on palm trees in the Amazon rainforest. Tagua harvesting is becoming an important source of income to local indigenous groups in Ecuador. Tagua is important to the rainforest too. As tagua grows as a natural part of the rainforest, it can be sustainably harvested without damage to the rainforest. Selling tagua also encourages local groups to maintain the rainforest rather than clear cutting it for farming or mining.
