The large orange and blue beads in this necklace are tagua, a very hard nut that grows on palm trees in the Amazon rainforest of Ecuador. Local indigenous people pick the nuts, let them dry in the sun and then process them. In this case the artisan polished the nuts and dyed them with an organic dye before drilling them and stringing them. The process and light dye brings out the natural beauty of the tagua, it retains its organic character, you will be able to see the faint swirls and markings of the original nut.
The beads are stung on sturdy cotton and come with a macramé sliding knot. With this type of knot, you can open the necklace wide to slip it over your head, then pull the strings to adjust the length to your neckline. You can leave it longer or shorter, depending on your look.
The beads in the necklace are approximately 1.5 inches (3cm) across and in total the necklace is 35 inches (100cm) long. The matching blue earrings are 1.5 inches (3cm) long.
